Interment 2

GREETING

Priest

In the name of the Father (+)

and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit.

All : Amen.

Priest

May the love of God

and the peace of

the Lord Jesus Christ

bless us and console us.

We gather today

at this sacred place

to pray for (N...)

whose mortal remains

will lie here to rest,

with our brothers and sisters

who have gone before us.

We believe that for them,

life is changed, not ended.

Our Saviour Jesus Christ

died and rose again

to crush the sting

of death and sin.

Let us therefore

offer our prayers

for (N...),

that he/she may

have a place of light

and refreshment

with Christ.

BLESSING OF THE NICHE

Priest:

Lord Jesus Christ,

by Your own three days

in the tomb,

You made holy the graves

of all who believe in You

and so made the grave

a sign of hope

that promises resurrection

even as it claims

our mortal bodies.

Bless this niche

which will receive

the mortal remains

of our brother/sister (N...)

and grant that

he/she may sleep here

in peace until

You awaken him/her to glory,

for You are the resurrection

and the life.

Then he/she will see You

face to face

and in Your light

will see your light

and know Your splendour,

for You live and reign

forever and ever.

All : Amen.

WORD OF GOD

A reading from the second letter

of St Paul to the Corinthians

(Cor 4:16-18, 5:1, 6-8)

So we do not lose heart.

Even though our outer nature

is wasting away,

our inner nature

is being renewed

day by day.

For this slight momentary affliction

is preparing us

for an eternal weight of glory

beyond all measure,

because we look not at

what can be seen

but at what cannot be seen;

for what can be seen

is temporary,

but what cannot be seen

is eternal.

For we know that

if the earthly tent

we live in is destroyed,

we have a building from God,

a house not made with hands,

eternal in the heavens.

So we are always confident;

even though we know that

while we are at home

in the body

we are away from the Lord-

for we walk by faith,

not by sight.

Yes, we do have confidence,

and we would rather be away

from the body

and at home with the Lord.

The Word of the Lord.

All : Thanks be to God.
