God sustains us with hope
God sustains us with hope
GREETING
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
Leader:
The Lord's eyes
are upon the reverent,
upon those who hope
for his gracious help.
All :
Delivering them from death,
keeping them alive
in times of famine.
Leader:
Our soul waits for the Lord,
who is our help and shield.
For in God our hearts rejoice;
in your holy name we trust.
All :
May your kindness,
Lord, be upon us;
we have put our hope in you.
Leader:
"Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be
called the children of God."
All:
They are truly peacemakers
who amidst all they suffer
in this world
maintain peace
in soul and body
for the love
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
OPENING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father,
you have not made us
for darkness and death,
but for life with you forever.
Without you we have nothing
to hope for;
with you we have nothing
to fear.
Speak to us now
your words of eternal life,
especially as we gather
to pray for
our brother/sister (N...)
Lift us from anxiety and guilt
to the light and peace
of your presence,
and set the glory
of your love before us;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All : Amen.
OLD TESTAMENT READING
A reading from
the prophet Isaiah.
(Is 38:16-20)
Those lives whom
the Lord protects;
yours, the life of my spirit.
You have given me
health and life;
thus is my bitterness
transformed into peace.
You have preserved my life
from the pit of destruction,
when you cast
behind your back
all my sins.
For it is not the netherworld
that gives you thanks,
nor death that praises you;
neither do those
who go down into the pit
await your kindness.
The living,
the living give you thanks,
as I do today.
Fathers, declare to their sons,
O God, your faithfulness.
The Lord is our saviour;
we shall sing
to stringed instruments
in the house of the Lord
all the days of our life.
The word of the Lord.
All : Thanks be to God.
PSALM (84)
Out of the depths
I call to you,
Lord; Lord, hear my cry!
May your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
Response:
With the Lord is kindness
and full redemption.
If you, Lord, mark our sins,
Lord, who can stand?
But with you is forgiveness
and so you are revered.
Response:
With the Lord is kindness
and full redemption.
I wait with longing
for the Lord,
my soul waits for his word.
My soul looks for the Lord
more than sentinels
for daybreak.
More than sentinels
for daybreak,
let Israel look for the Lord.
Response:
With the Lord is kindness
and full redemption.
For with the Lord is kindness,
with him is full redemption,
And God will redeem Israel
from all their sins.
Response:
With the Lord is kindness
and full redemption.
REFLECTION
Leader:
Times of despair
can manifest
through many ways,
especially upon the death
of a loved one.
It is during times like these
that can often leave us
fearful of what may
or may not happen next.
When it seems as if
our world is crumbling down,
it is easy to lose sight
of the Lord and
put our own will
ahead of the will of God.
It is in these moments
we must not let fear take hold.
We must trust in God
and the process
we are going through,
even when we
don't understand why.
God knows our joys
and our sorrows.
We must be patient
and wait on the Lord
to remove whatever obstacle
is in our path.
During this time, pray,
remain faithful,
remain obedient,
give thanks for everything
in your life and
be with others
who are of strong
Christian faith.
Believe in God, his love,
his power and know
as long as we are
faithful to him,
he will never leave our side.
(Pause for personal, silent reflection)

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Leader:
Let us now pray
the prayer that
Jesus taught us.
All:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
CLOSING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Almighty God,
Father of all mercies

casting all their care on you,
they may know
the consolation of your love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All : Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto (N...)
