GREETING
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
Leader:
I will leave
in the midst of you
a people humble and lowly.
They shall seek refuge
in the name of the Lord.
All:
They shall pasture and lie down,
and none shall make them afraid.
Leader:
At that time
I will bring you home,
at the time
when I gather you together.
All :
I will make you renowned
and praised among
all the peoples of the earth,
when I restore your fortunes
before your eyes.
Leader:
Blessed is the servant
who treasures up in heaven
the good things which
the Lord shows him
and who does not wish
to manifest them to others
through the hope of reward.
All :
For the Most High
will himself manifest his works
to whomsoever he may please.
OPENING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Eternal God,
our maker and redeemer,
grant to us,
along with our departed
brother/sister (N...)
and all the faithful departed,
the sure benefits
of your Son's saving passion
and glorious resurrection:
that, in the last day,
when you gather up
all things in Christ,
we may with them
enjoy the fullness
of your promises;
through Jesus Christ
your Son our Lord,
who is alive and
reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
All : Amen.
NEW TESTAMENT READING
A reading from
the letter to the Ephesians.
(Eph 1:3-10)
Blessed be the God
and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us in Christ
with every spiritual blessing
in the heavenly places,
even as he chose us in him
before the foundation
of the world,
that we should be holy
and blameless before him.
He destined us in love
to be his sons
through Jesus Christ,
according to the
purpose of his will,
to the praise
of his glorious grace
which he freely
bestowed on us
in the Beloved.
In him we have redemption
through his blood,
the forgiveness
of our trespasses,
according to the
riches of his grace
which he lavished upon us.
For he has made known to us
in all wisdom and insight
the mystery of his will,
according to his purpose
which he set forth
in Christ as a plan
for the fullness of time,
to unite all things in him,
things in heaven
and things on earth.
The word of the Lord.
All : Thanks be to God.
PSALM (102)
Lord, hear my prayer;
let my cry come to you.
Do not hide your face
from me now that
I am in distress.
Response:
May the children
of your servants
live in your presence.
But you, Lord,
are enthroned forever;
your renown is
for all generations.
You will again
show mercy to Zion.
Response:
May the children
of your servants
live in your presence.
The Lord looked down
from the holy heights,
viewed the earth
from heaven,
To attend to the groaning
of the prisoners,
to release those
doomed to die.
Response:
May the children
of your servants
live in your presence.
Then the Lord's name
will be declared on Zion,
the praise of God
in Jerusalem,
When all peoples
and kingdoms gather
to worship the Lord.
May the children
of your servants live on;
may their descendants
live in your presence.
Response:
May the children
of your servants
live in your presence.
REFLECTION
Leader :
The pain of losing
a loved one
is similar to losing
a part of our body.
It hurts.
We feel a part
of our own selves
is missing.
It is simply
inconceivable to us
that our loved one
simply is not present
anymore as a body.
We expect at any moment
to hear or see
him or her again.
Despite the pain,
we cannot lose
our own purpose in life.
We can fear that
we will not be able
to continue living
without the person
whom we've lost.
We need to learn to be
confident and fully capable
to dealing with
whatever life brings us,
especially with God
on our side.
We need to learn to accept
that there may be
a higher justice and wisdom
as to why this loss
has happened.
INTERCESSIONS
Leader:
Christ has risen
from the dead,
the first-fruits
of all who have
fallen asleep.
Let us praise him
as we respond:
Risen Lord, hear us.
Response:
Risen Lord, hear us.
Lord, remember the Church
you built on your apostles;
bless all those
who believe in you.
Response:
Risen Lord, hear us.
Comfort the sick
and renew their strength;
deliver them from
all pain and distress.
Response:
Risen Lord, hear us.
Help the anguished
and the oppressed;
in your love,
uphold the needy.
Response:
Risen Lord, hear us.
Through your cross
and resurrection
you have won immortal life;
grant to (N...) and
to all the dead
the joys of your kingdom.
Response:
Risen Lord, hear us.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Leader:
Let us now pray
the prayer that
Jesus taught us.
All:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
CLOSING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
O God,
you do not willingly
grieve or afflict
your children.
Look with pity
on the suffering
of your children
in their loss.
Sustain them
in their anguish;
and into the darkness
of their grief,
bring the light
of your love.
We ask this
through Christ our Lord.
All : Amen.
Leader:
Eternal rest grant unto (N...)
O Lord.
All :
And let perpetual light
shine upon him/her.
Leader:
May he/ she rest in peace.
All : Amen.
Leader:
May the soul of (N...)
and the souls of all
the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
All :
Amen.
Let us all,
everywhere,
in every place,
at every hour,
and at all times,
daily and continually believe,
truly and humbly,
and let us hold
in our hearts, and love,
honour, adore, serve,
praise and bless,
glorify and exalt,
magnify and give thanks
to the most
High and Supreme,
Eternal God.
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
