GREETING
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
Leader:
Those whose hearts
did not fall into idolatry
and who did not
turn away from the Lord.
All :
May their memory be blessed!
Leader:
May their bones revive
from where they lie.
All :
May the name of those
who have been honoured
live again in their sons!
Leader:
Let us therefore
desire nothing else,
wish for nothing else,
and let nothing please
and delight us
except our Creator
and Redeemer, and Saviour.
All :
Let nothing therefore hinder us,
let nothing separate us,
let nothing come between us.
OPENING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Lord of all,
we praise you
for all who have
entered into their rest
and reached the promised land
where you are seen face to face.
Give us grace
to follow in their footsteps
as they followed
in the way of your Son.
Thank you for the memory
of those you have
called to yourself:
by each memory,
turn our hearts
from things seen
to things unseen,
and lead us
till we come
to the eternal rest
you have prepared
for your people,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All : Amen.
NEW TESTAMENT READING
A reading from
the book of Philippians.
(Phil 1:3-6, 9-11, 23)
I give thanks to my God
at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy
in my every prayer
for all of you,
because of your partnership
for the gospel
from the first day until now.
I am confident of this,
that the one who began
a good work in you
will continue to complete it
until the day of Christ Jesus.
This is my prayer:
that your love
may increase
ever more and more
in knowledge and
every kind of perception,
to discern what is of value,
so that you may be
pure and blameless
for the day of Christ,
filled with the
fruit of righteousness
that comes through
Jesus Christ for the glory
and praise of God.
I long to depart this life
and be with Christ,
for that is far better.
The word of the Lord.
All : Thanks be to God.
PSALM (25)
I wait for you, O Lord;
lift up my soul
to my God.
In you l trust;
do not let me be disgraced.
Response:
Lord, remember me
in light of your love.
For you I wait
all the long day,
because of your
goodness, Lord.
Remember your
compassion and love,
O Lord; for they are ages old.
Response:
Lord, remember me
in light of your love.
Remember no more
the sins of my youth;
remember me only
in light of your love.
Good and upright
is the Lord,
who shows sinners the way.
Response:
Lord, remember me
in light of your love.
Preserve my life
and rescue me;
do not let me be disgraced,
for I trust in you.
Let honesty and virtue
preserve me;
I wait for you, O Lord.
Response:
Lord, remember me
in light of your love.
REFLECTION
Leader:
When we pray,
we are to pray in faith.
To pray in faith
means not to doubt.
When we worry,
we are doubting.
When we pray
fully trusting God,
then we are praying in faith.
When we hand our problems
over to God,
we must let go
and stop worrying,
knowing that he will
bring about the best possible
solution for all.
We have no need to worry.
We are to trust God implicitly.
He wants us to trust him.
Once we realise
what the concept of praying
in faith really means,
it becomes easier
to make our prayer request
to God then let it go.
We can proceed
without being entrenched
in doubt and worry
because we know that
he hears us and
will bring forth
the best result
in all situations,
if we but trust in him.
(Pause for personal, silent reflection)
INTERCESSIONS
Leader:
Christ is the bread of life
and he will raise up
on the last day
those who are nourished
by his word and his body.
Let us invoke his help
as we respond:
"Lord, give us your peace and joy".
Response:
Lord, give us your peace and joy.
Son of God,
risen from the dead,
you are the Lord of life;
bless all our
brothers and sisters
and make us holy.
Response:
Lord, give us your peace and joy.
You are the peace and joy
of all who believe in you;
help us to live
as children of light,
rejoicing in your victory.
Response:
Lord, give us your peace and joy.
May your pilgrim Church
grow in faith;
strengthen us
to bear witness
before the world
to your resurrection.
Response:
Lord, give us your peace and joy.
You underwent great sufferings
to enter into the Father's glory;
wipe away all tears
and turn sorrow into joy.
Response:
Lord, give us your peace and joy.
Make us worthy
to adore you
in the communion
of the saints;
grant eternal joy
to (N...) and
all the faithful departed,
whom we entrust
to your care.
Response:
Lord, give us your peace and joy.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Leader:
Let us now pray
the prayer that
Jesus taught us.
All:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
CLOSING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Lord God,
you are attentive
to the voice of our pleading.
Let us find in your Son
comfort in our sadness,
certainty in our doubt
and courage to live.
Make our faith strong
through Christ our Lord.
All : Amen.
Leader:
Eternal rest grant unto (N...)
O Lord.
All :
And let perpetual light
shine upon him/her.
Leader:
May he/ she rest in peace.
All : Amen.
Leader:
May the soul of (N...)
and the souls of all
the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
All :
Amen.
Let us all,
everywhere,
in every place,
at every hour,
and at all times,
daily and continually believe,
truly and humbly,
and let us hold
in our hearts, and love,
honour, adore, serve,
praise and bless,
glorify and exalt,
magnify and give thanks
to the most
High and Supreme,
Eternal God.
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
