God is love
GREETING
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
Leader:
Cleave to the Lord
your God as you have
done to this day.
All :
Take good heed
to yourselves,
therefore, to love
the Lord your God.
Leader:
I am the Lord your God,
who brought you
out of the land of Egypt.
All :
Love the Lord your God
with all your heart
and with all your soul,
that you may live.
Leader:
O how happy and blessed
are those who love the Lord.
All :
Let us therefore love God
and adore him
with a pure heart
and a pure mind.
OPENING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Father in heaven,
we praise your name
for all who have
finished this life
loving and trusting you,
for the example of their lives,
the life and grace
you gave them,
and the peace
in which they rest.
We praise you today
for your servant (N...)
and for all that you did
through him/her.
Meet us in our sadness
and fill our hearts
with praise
and thanksgiving,
for the sake of
our risen Lord,
Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
All: Amen.
OLD TESTAMENT READING
A reading from the book of Deuteronomy.
(Deut 10:12-15, 20-22)
And now, Israel, what does
the Lord your God
require of you, but to fear
the Lord your God,
to walk in all his ways,
to love him, to serve
the Lord your God
with all your heart
and with all your soul,
and to keep the commandments
and statutes of the Lord,
which I command you this day
for your good?
Behold, to the Lord your God
belong heaven
and the heaven of heavens,
the earth with all that is in it;
yet the Lord set his heart
in love upon your fathers
and chose their descendants
after them, you above all peoples,
as at this day.
You shall fear
the Lord your God;
you shall serve him
and cleave to him,
and by his name
you shall swear.
He is your praise;
he is your God,
who has done for you
these great and terrible things
which your eyes have seen.
Your fathers went down
to Egypt seventy persons;
and now the Lord your God
has made you
as the stars of heaven
for multitude.
The word of the Lord.
All : Thanks be to God.
PSALM (100)
Make a joyful noise
to the Lord, all the lands!
Serve the Lord
with gladness!
Come into his presence
with singing!
Know that the Lord is God!
Response:
This is my commandment,
that you love one another
as I have loved you.
It is he that made us,
and we are his;
we are his people,
and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Response:
This is my commandment,
that you love one another
as I have loved you.
Give thanks to him,
bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love
endures forever,
and his faithfulness
to all generations.
Response:
This is my commandment,
that you love one another
as I have loved you.
REFLECTION
Leader:
The knowledge or thought
of resurrection and immortality
affects how we look at
the rest of our lives
and how we choose
to live that life.
Knowing that we will live
in an eternal home
without pain and hardship
makes us hopeful
and changes
the perspective we have
on our mortal existence.
The promise of resurrection
gives us the strength
and perspective to endure
the mortal challenges
faced by each of us
and by those we love,
such things as the
physical, mental, or
emotional deficiencies
we bring with us at birth
or acquire during mortal life.
Because of the resurrection,
we know that mortal deficiencies
are only temporary!
The promise that
the resurrection will include
an opportunity to be
with our family members--
husband, wife, parents,
brothers and sisters,
children, and grandchildren--
is a powerful encouragement
for us to fulfil
our family responsibilities
in mortality.
It helps us live together
in love in this life
in anticipation of
joyful reunions
and associations in the next.
(Pause for personal, silent reflection)
INTERCESSIONS
Leader:
Let us pray to the Father,
the all-powerful God,
who raised up Jesus,
our prince and our Saviour,
as we respond:
Glorify us, Lord,
with the glory of Christ.
Response:
Glorify us, Lord,
with the glory of Christ.
Father, you brought
your beloved Son
from the darkness of death
to the light of your glory;
let us enter into the
regions of your own
wonderful light.

with the glory of Christ.
You saved us
through faith in Jesus Christ;
help us to live
in the grace of our baptism.
Response:

with the glory of Christ.
You have told us
to seek the things
that are in heaven;
enable us to
resist the attraction of sin.

with the glory of Christ.
Reveal the riches
of our hidden life in Christ;
that all people may see
the signs of the new heaven
and the new earth.

with the glory of Christ.
You are the light and joy
of the city of God;
shine on (N...)
and all the faithful departed
that they may reign forever.

with the glory of Christ.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Leader:
Let us now pray
the prayer that
Jesus taught us.
All:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
CLOSING PRAYER
Leader:
Let us pray.
Father of all mercies
and God of all consolation,
you pursue us with
untiring love and dispel
the shadow of death
with the bright dawn of life.
Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
by dying has destroyed our death,
and by rising, restored our life.
Your Holy Spirit, our comforter,
speaks for us in groans
too deep for words.
Come alongside your people,
remind them
of your eternal presence
and give them
your comfort and strength.
Grant this through
Christ our Lord.
All : Amen.
Leader:
Eternal rest grant unto (N...)
O Lord.
All :
And let perpetual light
shine upon him/her.
Leader:
May he/ she rest in peace.
All : Amen.
Leader:
May the soul of (N...)
and the souls of all
the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
All :
Amen.
Let us all,
everywhere,
in every place,
at every hour,
and at all times,
daily and continually believe,
truly and humbly,
and let us hold
in our hearts, and love,
honour, adore, serve,
praise and bless,
glorify and exalt,
magnify and give thanks
to the most
High and Supreme,
Eternal God.
Leader:
In the name of the Father (+)
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
All : Amen.
