Interment 3

GREETING

Priest

In the name of the Father (+)

and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit.

All : Amen.

Priest

Lord, support us

all the day long,

until the shadows lengthen,

and the evening comes,

and the busy world is hushed,

and the fever of life is over,

and our work is done.

All :

Then in Your mercy,

grant us a safe lodging,

and a holy rest,

and peace at the last.

OPENING PRAYER

Priest:

O God, whose mercies

cannot be numbered,

accept our prayers

on behalf of Your servant (N...)

whose earthly remains

are laid to rest here today,

and grant him/her

entrance into

the land of light and joy,

in the fellowship of Your saints;

through Jesus Christ

Your Son our Lord,

who lives and reigns

with You and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

All : Amen.

WORD OF GOD

A reading from

the book of Wisdom

(Wis 3:1-7, 9)

The souls of the just

are in the hand of God,

and no torment

shall touch them.

They seemed,

in the view of the foolish,

to be dead;

and their passing away

was thought an affliction

and their going forth from us,

utter destruction.

But they are in peace.

For if before people, indeed,

they be punished,

yet is their hope full of immortality.

Chastised a little,

they shall be greatly blessed,

because God tried them

and found them

worthy of himself.

As gold in the furnace,

he proved them,

and as sacrificial offerings

he took them to himself.

Those who trust in him

shall understand truth,

and the faithful shall

abide with him

in love:

Because grace and mercy

are with his holy ones,

and his care is with the elect.

The Word of the Lord.

All : Thanks be to God.

CANTICLE OF CREATION

all powerful,

good Lord,

Yours are the praises,

the glory, the honour

and all blessing.

To You alone, Most High,

do they belong,

and no one is worthy

to mention Your name.

through all Your creatures,

especially through Brother Sun,

who brings the day;

and You give light through him.

And he is beautiful

and radiant

in all his splendour!

Of You, Most High,

he bears the likeness.

through Sister Moon

and the stars,

in heaven

You formed them,

clear and precious

and beautiful.

through Brother Wind,

and through the air,

cloudy and serene,

and every kind of weather

through which

You give sustenance

to Your creatures.

through Sister Water,

which is very useful

and humble and precious

and chaste.

through Brother Fire,

through whom

You light the night

and he is beautiful

and playful and robust

and strong.

through Sister Mother Earth,

who sustains us

and governs us,

and who produces

varied fruits

with coloured flowers

and herbs.

through those

who give pardon

for Your love,

and bear infirmity

and tribulation.

Blessed are those

who endure in peace,

for by You, Most High,

they shall be crowned.

through our Sister Bodily Death,

from whom

no living person can escape.

All :

Praise and bless my Lord,

and give him thanks,

and serve him

with great humility.

BLESSING OF THE NICHE

AND INTERMENT

Priest:

God of tenderness and love,

Your Son Jesus willingly

gave himself up to death

so that all people

might be saved

and pass from death

to new life.

Listen to our prayers

and look with love

on Your people

who mourn and pray

for their departed

brother/sister (N...).

Lord God,

You are the font of life.

In Your kindness,

bless this niche

which will contain

the earthly remains

of our brother/sister (N...).

By Your Son's death

and resurrection,

You opened the gates of life

for those who believe in You.

Do not allow Your son/daughter

to be parted from You,

but by Your glorious power

give him/her light, joy,

and peace in heaven

where You live

forever and ever.

All : Amen.

Priest:

As we await

the promise of God's kingdom,

let us pray...

THE LORD'S PRAYER &

THE ANGELIC SALUTATION

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven.

Give us this day

our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with you.

Blessed are you amongst women

and blessed is the

fruit of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners now,

and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Glory be to the Father,

and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now and ever shall be,

world without end.

Amen.

RITE OF INTERMENT

Priest:

We now entomb

the mortal remains

of our brother/ sister (N...)

We recall that our bodies

bear the imprint

of the first creation

when they were fashioned

from dust.

In faith we remember, too,

that by the new creation

we also bear

the image of Jesus

who was raised in glory.

In confident hope

that one day

God will raise us

and transform

our mortal bodies,

let us pray now

in the silence of our hearts,

as the urn containing

the remains of

our brother/sister (N...)

is interred in its niche.

PRAYER AFTER INTERMENT

Priest:

Faithful God,

Lord of all creation,

You desire that nothing

redeemed by Your Son

will ever be lost,

and that the just

will be raised on the last day.

Comfort us today

with the word

of Your promise,

as we commit

the mortal remains

of our brother/sister (N...)

to its final resting place;

grant him/her

a place of rest and peace

in Your heavenly kingdom,

where the world

of dust and ashes

has no dominion.

Confirm us in our hope

that he/she will be created

anew on the day

when You will raise him/her

up in glory

to live with You

and all the saints

forever and ever.

All: Amen.

CONCLUSION

come to his/her aid!

Come to meet him/her,

angels of the Lord!

All :

Receive his/her soul

and present him/her

to God the Most High.
